North Macedonia Travel Guide: Skopje, Matka and Lake Ohrid

Arrival and onward travel
Compare your arrival airport with your first overnight stop: Skopje and Ohrid are different bases. For road travel from Kosovo, check the service for your actual date and confirm whether it arrives at a bus station or another meeting point.
Before moving between Skopje and Ohrid, check the current departure, journey time, luggage arrangements and last return. Keep airport transfers separate from intercity bus planning. For Matka, confirm both directions before leaving the city, including the final part between your transport stop and the place you want to visit.
A suggested four-day trip
- Day 1: Skopje's centre, Stone Bridge and Old Bazaar.
- Day 2: a Matka outing if conditions and transport fit, with a relaxed evening back in Skopje.
- Day 3: travel to Ohrid and explore the old town without rushing.
- Day 4: a lakeside day, with enough time for your departure transfer.
For a weekend, choose Skopje or Ohrid rather than trying to fit both into two days. With more time, add extra lake nights instead of changing accommodation every day.
