Prishtina to Tirana: Bus or Shared Ride Between Kosovo and Albania

Tirana is about 250 km from Prishtina. Thanks to the motorway through Kukës (Rruga e Kombit), the drive takes around three and a half hours. It's one of the busiest cross-border routes in the region, and you have a few good ways to make the trip.

Cross-border timetables and fares vary by operator and season, so check current times before you travel. RruGO's built-in bus timetables currently cover routes inside Kosovo. For Prishtina–Tirana, look for shared rides in the app.

By bus

Several companies run between Prishtina and Tirana every day, mostly from Prishtina's main bus station, and some also stop at Tirana Airport. Fares usually fall somewhere between about €10 and €20 depending on the operator. In summer and around holidays the buses fill up, so buy your ticket in advance at the station or from the operator.

By shared ride

Plenty of people drive between Kosovo and Albania for work, family visits, weekends away or the summer holidays. On RruGO, search Prishtinë → Tiranë, or Tirana Airport if you have a flight. The driver sets the price per seat to share fuel and tolls, you see it before you book, and you pay the driver in cash. RruGO takes no commission.

A shared ride is often the better option when:

  • you want to leave at a time when no bus runs, such as early morning or late evening;
  • you'd like to be dropped off nearer to where you're staying (message the driver to agree on it);
  • you're carrying extra luggage and want to sort it out with the driver beforehand.

No ride posted for your date yet? Set up a ride alert and RruGO will notify you when one appears.

Crossing the border

The main crossing is Vërmicë–Morinë, right on the motorway. It's usually quick, but queues can build on summer weekends and during holidays, especially July–August and New Year, when the diaspora travels. Keep your passport or ID card ready. If you're driving a rental car, check that its insurance covers both countries.

Money

Kosovo uses the euro and Albania uses the lek. Euros are often accepted in Tirana and in tourist areas, but keep some lek for small purchases and local transport.
