Flying to Kosovo via Tirana or Skopje: Getting to Prishtina From the Airport

Prishtina Airport is the obvious choice for Kosovo, but many visitors and diaspora also compare flights into Tirana (TIA) and Skopje (SKP). Both are a few hours away by road and sometimes have cheaper or better-timed flights. Here's what the onward trip looks like from each.

Car times without border queues. Bus times are longer. Cross-border schedules and fares change often, so check them close to your travel date.

From Skopje Airport

Skopje Airport is the closest alternative, roughly 100 km from Prishtina. A few direct buses a day run from the airport to Prishtina. Otherwise, take the airport shuttle into Skopje and change to a Prishtina bus at Skopje's bus station, which adds time. Taxis and private transfers cost many times more than the bus.

From Tirana Airport

Tirana has more flights than either Prishtina or Skopje, which is why many people use it. Buses run between Tirana Airport and Prishtina several times a day, leaving from outside the terminal. The trip takes about 3.5–4 hours including the border.

Is it worth it?

A cheaper flight into Tirana or Skopje isn't always cheaper overall. Before you book, add up:

• the cost of the bus or ride to Prishtina, both ways;
• the extra 2–4 hours of travel on each leg;
• your arrival time: late-night arrivals have few or no buses, so you'll need a shared ride or a pre-arranged transfer;
• the season: in summer and at New Year, border queues can add hours, so leave plenty of time for your flight home.
