Tirana Airport to Tirana City (and On to Kosovo)
Tirana International Airport "Nënë Tereza" (TIA) is Albania's main airport, about 17 km north-west of the city. It's also a popular way into Kosovo, so here's how to get into Tirana and how to continue north.
At a glance
| Option | To the centre | Cost (approx.) |
|---|---|---|
| Airport bus (Rinas Express) | about 30–45 min | about 400 lek (≈ €4) |
| Taxi | about 25–40 min | about 2,200–2,500 lek (≈ €22–25) |
| Shared ride (RruGO) | direct to your destination | price per seat set by the driver |
The airport bus
The Rinas Express bus leaves from outside the terminal roughly every hour and drops you in the centre, near Skanderbeg Square and the National Museum. Traffic at rush hour can stretch the trip to an hour. Pay on board. The airport's website lists the current hours.
Taxi
Taxis wait outside arrivals and there's an official fixed fare to the city centre. Agree on the price before you get in, especially for destinations outside Tirana.
On to Kosovo
Many visitors to Kosovo fly into Tirana because it has more flights. From the airport you have two options:
- Bus: several buses a day run between Tirana Airport and Prishtina, about 3.5–4 hours including the border.
- Shared ride: on RruGO, search Aeroporti Ndërkombëtar i Tiranës (TIA) → Prishtinë, or straight to Prizren, Gjakova or Peja. Around holidays and in summer, drivers often head to Kosovo straight from the airport.

Tips
- Get some lek at the airport ATM for the bus and small purchases.
- Landing late? Check the bus hours before you fly, or arrange a ride in advance.
- Heading south to the coast? There are no direct buses from the airport. Go into Tirana first. See the Albanian Riviera without a car.
