Internet in Dubai: eSIM for the United Arab Emirates, and Which Apps Work

Dubai has become one of the most popular winter getaways from Kosovo, Albania and North Macedonia, with direct flights and plenty of package holidays. The UAE is far outside every roaming zone, so roaming there can cost more than the hotel. An eSIM for the Emirates is set up in two minutes and works as soon as you land.

What a UAE eSIM costs

Prices as of October 2026. Current prices are always on the UAE eSIM page. The plans run on the du 5G network and cover all seven emirates, including Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

WhatsApp and FaceTime calls in the UAE

Messaging works normally: WhatsApp and Viber messages, photos and voice notes all go through. Voice and video calls in apps like WhatsApp and FaceTime have long been restricted in the UAE and often do not connect. Rules change from time to time, so do not count on these calls working, and agree with your family on messages or voice notes instead. Normal phone calls on your own number still work, at your operator's roaming price.

Tips for Dubai

• Taxis and ride apps: Careem and Uber are the easiest way around and need data.
• Metro and maps: Dubai is spread out and very hot, so you will use maps more than you think.
• Free Wi-Fi exists in malls and the metro, but often asks for a local phone number. The eSIM avoids that.
• Stopping in Qatar or Saudi Arabia too? There are separate eSIMs for Qatar and Saudi Arabia. For Umrah, see eSIM for Umrah and Hajj.

How it works

1. Buy the eSIM on rrugo.com/esim or in the RruGO app. The QR code arrives straight away.
2. Install it at home on Wi-Fi with our step-by-step guide.
3. When you land in Dubai, choose the eSIM for mobile data, turn on data roaming for it, and turn off data roaming on your home SIM.
